Leslie Gregory Workshop

This workshop will focus on exploring various ways to express our ideas in black and white and all the shades in between. Free from the demands of colour, we can focus on achieving interesting, expressive artwork through the use of texture, contrast, shape and value.

This will NOT be a drawing class so no particular skills are required – just a lot of enthusiasm and the willingness to let go, get a bit dirty and see how far we can push these traditional mediums. The results will be unpredictable but will form the basis for creating artwork that is unusual and expressive

DATE: May 6 & 7, 2011
TIME: 9:30 to 4:00
LOCATION: 1170 Spider Lake Road (my home studio)
COST: $100.00 plus $25.00 material fee
SUPPLIES: Just your lunches
EXPERIENCE: non required!

This workshop will be limited to 8 people so if you are interested, please contact me at: lesliegregory@live.ca or (250) 757-9627 to reserve your place.

A $20.00 deposit will be required upon acceptance.

Susan McLennan in New York

Susan McLennan makes her Art Expo New York debut. New works render sculptural paintings of intense energy in a creative response to thought patterns. Ambition. Betrayal. Intuition. Using an innovative process, glass inclusions are manipulated to achieve sculptural depth within layers of paint.

Collage Workshop by Jacqueline Smith

April 12 & 13

The Old School House Arts Center
Qualicum Beach

This is going to be one of the most exciting workshops you have taken. The reason for this is you cannot do anything wrong.

You are hopefully going to feel a freedom that this process gave me.

All those “almost” great paintings under your bed or thrown in the drawer will become a part of something much more than they were.

I was starting to feel like I wasn’t enjoying painting like I did initially and I was being very critical of myself and my work. There was always a mistake, or muddiness, or something ugly in a part of the painting but I saved them because there were the “treasures” in each as well, and I thought some day I will pull them out and suddenly magically be able to complete them and they will be beautiful. Little did I realize that in destroying them they would have a new life. In this process even the “ugly” parts will be needed and a valuable part of your new creation. But first we must destroy the original, tear it up and then we will recreate!

Some changes as we start 2011...

TOSH10 has its first alumnus. We sadly say "farewell" to Marilyn Cooney. Marilyn will no longer be exhibiting or working in the studio. It's not all bad news however, as this change has come about as a result of Marilyn's increasing success in the world of art, including, among other things, an an exciting venture involving a big contract to produce her incredibly beautiful silk scarves. Congratulations Marilyn and good luck!

TOSH10 welcomes Helen Webster to the group. Helen has been our guest artist for the past six months. With the departure of Marilyn Cooney, Helen has now been made a full resident member of TOSH10.

And, welcome back Lisa Danesin. Lisa has been on leave from TOSH10 while she was busy with courses at BCIT.
